The Most Effective Temporary Employees Follow These Tips When it Comes to Office Politics

By Wendy Sun, Vice President of Recruiting |   Mon, May 23, 2016 @ 07:00 AM

We all know that it takes more than just skills to be an asset to your company – you need to be a good coworker, someone who gets along with others and doesn’t cause drama. Look to the sports world for proof. No matter how talented someone is, if they are a poisonous presence on the team, they almost always end up being traded. Being a positive presence, in a locker room or a more traditional workplace, is just as valuable to your employer as the specific skills you bring. There are many things you can do to be a good temporary worker and this post focuses on one of them - don’t get involved in office politics. Just. Don’t.

Celebrating National Staffing Employee Week

By ATR International |   Thu, Sep 19, 2013 @ 08:38 AM

September 16th through the 20th is National Staffing Employee Week (NSEW), a time to recognize the hard work and valuable contributions that temporary and contract employees make working at firms ranging from small to large and encompassing all industries. I want to thank the many people who we have placed in contract positions this past year for trusting us with a part of your career and, in fact, an important part of your life.  As you all probably know, I have been contemplating the staffing industry as a whole and ATR’s place in it quite a bit over the last few weeks as we prepared to celebrate 25 years in business (ATR International Celebrates 25 Years).  I am happy to repeat myself when I say that putting people to work is one of the most rewarding and satisfying experiences and it is a privilege to be in this business; the fact that NSEW falls right after our anniversary celebration seems only fitting!

We Don't Want Your Business and Here's Why

By ATR International |   Tue, Jul 23, 2013 @ 08:52 AM

We recently had an experience that doesn’t happen all the time – we decided not to submit a proposal in response to an RFP that we received. Sounds crazy to turn down the opportunity for work but it really isn’t. We (and I’m sure others) do it more than you might think, though not often. Deciding which opportunities are right for your company is one of the most important things you can learn to do in business. Indiscriminately chasing every lead or potential client isn’t a smart idea; sometimes it means you lose money on the job or that you’re trying to deliver services outside of your true area of expertise. Understanding what your criteria are for working with particular clients is just as important as understanding their needs. Only then can you hope to achieve a truly successful business relationship for both parties. I covered this topic in part in a column last year: True Partnerships are a Must for Successful Staffing Providers.

Video Job Interviews: The Good and the Bad

By ATR International |   Mon, Feb 04, 2013 @ 08:55 AM

“Are video interviews becoming the norm?” This is the question posed by David Gee in Staffing Talk. He references a New York Post article about the rise in the use of video in the application process. According to a 2012 survey by OfficeTeam, in 2011 only 1% responded they used video “very often” but a year later that figure jumped to 53% and 13% expect to increase their usage in the next three years.

By ATR International |   Fri, Jan 25, 2013 @ 09:31 AM

Adecco recently released the results of their Mature Worker Survey, and despite what the name suggests, the respondents were actually hiring managers answering questions about their perceptions of mature and Millennial workers. There are some interesting results that give pause for thought. Key findings include:

Five eGuides That Will Perfect Your Contingent Workforce Program

By ATR International |   Tue, Oct 02, 2012 @ 08:45 AM

I recently attended the SIA’s 2012 CWS Summit in San Diego with a number of my ATR colleagues. We were actually a sponsor of the event for the first time and we had a wonderful experience! The sessions addressed a variety of subjects related to contingent workforce programs. They were interesting and provided great learning opportunities, but, as usually is the case with conferences, the best part was simply the chance to meet and speak with people. In our fast-paced, technology-laden world, a face to face conversation can turn into a rarity. The Summit was just the latest reminder that it’s important to make time and get out there! I learned just as much by simply talking to those who stopped by our booth. In fact, I actually missed a few of the sessions because I was deep in conversation (thank goodness for MP3s)!

A Week to Appreciate Temporary Employees

By ATR International |   Fri, Sep 07, 2012 @ 09:05 AM

September 10th-16th is National Staffing Employee Week honoring the contributions of America's temporary employees. No one is happier to recognize these men and women than those of us at ATR International. We are so proud to work with the wonderful, talented individuals that are part of the workforce at client sites all over the United States. Theodore Roosevelt said "far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." Our contractors are looking for the chance to do just that and it is our privilege to help them find the right opportunity.
