Why are so many firms abandoning MSPs and taking things in house?

By Jerry Brenholz |   Mon, Jun 04, 2018 @ 01:16 PM

I’ve been in the staffing industry for most of my career, first having a successful technical career followed by a career as a technical consultant looking for project work, and for the past 30 years as the owner of ATR International a staffing firm headquartered in the Silicon Valley. ATR was in business when MSPs first arose, we’ve been and still are an MSP for some of our clients, and we currently work successfully with our clients’ MSPs. I’m not one for bold pronouncements but it seems to me that lately MSPs are increasingly under pressure.

Happy Thanksgiving from ATR International

By Jerry Brenholz |   Thu, Nov 23, 2017 @ 01:49 PM

Happy Thanksgiving! What a year it has been! As we take time to reflect upon all that we are thankful for, I wanted to express great appreciation to the team at ATR International. Without your hard work and determination to succeed, our company would not have been able to achieve what it has this past year. A testament to this hard work and dedication was that out of 12,000 different companies, ATR was selected and received the Supplier of the Year award given by the NMSDC for 2017. Even with this recent success, the past twenty-nine years that we have been in business have not always been the smoothest of rides. The dedication and resilience of our team is why we continue to experience business success in the present day.

The End of Performance Reviews

By Jerry Brenholz |   Tue, Sep 15, 2015 @ 07:00 AM

There’s been a flurry of news over the summer about some big corporations abandoning the traditional annual Performance Review (PR), joining others who’ve made the same decision over the past several years. Microsoft, Adobe, Medtronic, and most recently Deloitte and Accenture, have all jettisoned the traditional annual PR and its accompanying forced ranking requirement, up or out process, and other common components. About 6% of the Fortune 500 have made this move.

Articles about this are everywhere. It’s a change that has been developing for a while, accelerating over the last six months or so, and is now acknowledged in multiple business and industry publications as officially the current state of things. Across many, if not most, industries and job categories demand is going up for workers, and the supply of those with the experience and skills employers want isn’t growing at the same pace. This puts workers in a better position to be deliberate and selective.
